Before Christmas 2025, a biochar plant will be ready for production at Mære Agricultural School. A farm facility is being built here for demonstration and testing, while we will also build expertise on the economics and practical use of biochar in agriculture. 600 tons of wood chips will be converted into 100 tons of biochar and 400,000 kWh of heat energy. The biochar will be used in the compost plant and on our fields.
The plant is of the Biomacon brand and the Norwegian dealer is Bioland AS . The client is Trøndelag County Council, which is investing heavily in various climate measures, including in agriculture. In the presentation below, you can hear project manager Tove Hatling Jystad at the Green Competence Center Mære-Skjetlein talk about why we are investing in biochar and what the facility will be like.
Here you can read even more about biochar.. The Norwegian Biocoal Network has a lot of good information.
